Scientists from Flinders University, Australia have recently launched new vaccines for seasonal influenza (an acute respiratory infection attributable to influenza viruses which circulate in all elements of the world) with the help of AI. The analysts claimed that this vaccine is the first human drug on this planet, which is to be entirely designed by artificial intelligence.
Nikolai Petrovsky and his analysis partners are the consultants behind this innovation, which is currently in the testing section. The vaccine is about to be examined in medical trials within the US, which is able to take about a year to finish. The test is sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the United States National Institutes of Health and it aims to recruit 240 healthy volunteers where they’ll study their immune responses to the vaccine. Prof Petrovsky stated, “It takes decades to develop a brand new human vaccine, and that is extremely hard to achieve below Australian funding models, which are usually short term.”
Prof Petrovsky stated, “To date in 2019 there have been over 96 thousand confirmed cases throughout Australia. The number in WA almost doubled to ten thousand, as did several of deaths, there were 57 deaths recorded in NSW, 44 in South Africa, and nearly 40 in Queensland.”
It took around 2 years for the researchers to develop the vaccine. By utilizing artificial intelligence technologies within the vaccine development process, the researchers stated that it had accelerated the process along with a cost-efficient way.
